The SAAF OXYTOME CNC Plasma retrofit was executed by CR PLASMA at an Irish client. The original French-manufactured plasma machine had suffered significant performance issues, including failures in the main plasma power source and control systems.
CR PLASMA conducted a full on-site assessment, evaluating the machine’s structural integrity before proceeding with a complete system overhaul. The process included:
Stripping all legacy proprietary controls, ducting, piping, wiring, and sensors.
Designing a custom interface kit and retrofit package to integrate modern supportable components.
Installing a new Z-axis torch post lifter.
Fabricating interface brackets to connect closed-loop AC servo systems into the existing gearboxes.
The retrofit featured the integration of a new Ultra-Cut 201 CNC plasma power source from Thermal Dynamics, updated gas control modules, and a remote arc start module. All associated components—servos, cables (sensor, data, etc), and connectors—were replaced and installed as new.
Key benefits realized:
Machine is now cutting up to 30 mm mild steel.
Full subsystem overhaul ensures modern, high-efficiency operations.
Vertically integrated CR PLASMA controller allows seamless interfacing with the plasma power unit.
Remote operability and support access through a high-spec standalone controller console and HMI interface.
Cost Savings: Instead of purchasing a new machine with long lead times and a cost exceeding €150,000, the customer opted for the CR PLASMA retrofit. This decision restored full production capability with modern performance at a fraction of the cost.
